To produce the first portable integrated Micro-GC, Cbana Labs has utilized a lunch box Micro-FID prototype in conjunction with other Cbana Labs products, including the Integrated Microvalve/Preconcentrator and the GC Microcolumn. In order to detect gases that are not identified by FID, Cbana Labs is also developing more specific detectors such as Micro-Thermal Conductivity Detectors (Micro-TCDs), Carbon-nano tube (CNT) based chemresistors, and others.

Cbana Labs’ lunch box prototype can be tuned with its detection target, resolution, and speed depending on the application. In addition, the lunch box is highly customizable to meet customers’ specific needs and applications. Application of our Micro-GC/FID (and/or other detectors) includes, but is not limited to:

1. Security and law enforcement: Contraband detection in cargo, Border line control
2. Food industry: Fumigant detection in cargo or food, HC detection in food packaging, food hygiene monitoring
3. Petroleum analysis: HC analysis for compliance with state regulation of risk and spill assessment, biofuel analysis
4. Environmental monitoring: Air quality monitoring, Mine air monitoring, Fugitive emission monitoring, Industrial chemical waste monitoring
5. Crime analysis: Forensic analysis

• Fast heat/injection of gas analyte with minimal dead volume using a patent pending microvalve/preconcentrator: Increases the resolution of GC spectrum; reduces analysis time
• Very little power consumption: Less than 10W including circuits and all other peripherals
• Small, light and robust: although the entire GC chip weighs less than four grams (enabled by MEMS technology), it is still highly robust and capable of running for extended periods of time.
